As parents, we all want to give our children the best, right from the very beginning. And when it comes to swimming, we want to ensure our little ones are not only safe around water, but also have fun and enjoy it! Swimming is a great form of exercise for both babies and parents, and it’s a skill that can be life-saving. But at what age can babies start learning to swim? In this blog post, we’re going to explore the benefits of early swimming and when is the right time to introduce your little one to the pool, with the help of Marlins Swim School experts.
There are many benefits of early swimming, and these include physical, social, and cognitive development. Swimming at an early age helps to improve strength and motor skills, promotes confidence and independence, and encourages social interaction. Moreover, research shows that babies who swim regularly have better communication skills and cognitive abilities than those who don’t swim.
At Marlins Swim School, we recommend starting with baby swimming lessons as early as four months old in our Water Familiarisation classes. At this age, babies are still able to hold their breath and have a natural reflex to move their arms and legs in water. Our baby swimming classes are designed to help your little ones become comfortable in water, learn basic swimming techniques, and have fun with other babies!
For slightly older babies between 6 months and 1.5 years old, we offer our Starfish class. These classes are designed to help develop your child’s confidence and independence in water, refine their swimming skills, and prepare them for more advanced classes in the future. Our instructors use sensory activities such as toys and songs to keep the toddlers interested, engaged and eager to learn more.
At 1.5-3 years old, children can join our toddler swimming classesalso know as Penguins, which are designed to build upon their existing swimming skills learned in toddler lessons. Instructors will teach core aquatic skills like breath control, kicking and floating, and incorporating age appropriate activities in a fun and inclusive environment, laying a foundation for eventual water safety.
At Marlins Swim School, we know that every child is different, and we ensure that our swimming classes are tailored to your child’s individual needs and developmental stages to help them reach their full potential.
Swimming is a fantastic skill that can benefit your child’s physical, social, and cognitive development, as well as providing an important safety skill around water. At Marlins Swim School, we believe that early introduction to swimming is vital, with courses starting as early as 4 months old. Our baby swimming lessons ensure that your little ones are comfortable in water, whilst enjoying themselves and developing crucial swimming techniques that will serve them throughout their lives.
